Stradanja na Mount Everestu jako su skupa

Ove se godine na Himalaju odnosno na najviši vrh svijeta Mount Everest (8.848 m) sprema ići 463 planinara – toliko je, naime, dozvola izdala država Nepal na čijem se području planina nalazi.

Malo je reći da toj državici prihod od (planinskog) turizma puno znači (blizu 8% BDP), tu su i brojne druge usluge vezane za planinarenje. U tom je sektoru zaposleno oko 140 tisuća ljudi, oko 20.000 je vodiča i nosača, samo od dozvola za uspon je, recimo, 2019. ostvareno oko četiri milijuna dolara! Mount Everest je za iskonskog planinara nedosanjani san, kovčeg čudesa, zlatni gral! Bio i ostao. Zajedno s planinarima tu su i vodiči, nosači, pa se broj penjača u najmanju ruku podvostručava. A kada se zna da dozvola za uspon, ovisno o raznim stvarima, stoji između 25-75.000 dolara, ispada da to nije nimalo jeftin sport.

No jednako tako skupo je, ako ne i skuplje, i umiranje na Mount Everestu! Stradanja su (bila) brojna, na planini je, želeći ostvariti svoj životni cilj i popeti se na krov svijeta, od početaka i prvog osvajanja vrha (novozelandski planinar Sir Edmund Hillary i sherpa Tenzing Norgay, 29.5. 1953.) poginulo više od 310 ljudi. A mnoga tijela, kako izvještava Večernji list (14.5.2023.) ostala su u planini. Već na početku ove godine smrtno su stradala četiri planinara. Dvije su stvari povezane: izvlačenje tijela je iznimno teško i opasno, ponekad i nemoguće, pa se znalo dogoditi da su pri tom stradali i spasioci. I drugo, zbog svega toga izvlačenje je jako, jako skupo, oko 70.000 dolara!

Treba reći i ovo: osim iskonskih planinara među onima koji bi na Mount Everest nađu se i grupice avanturista, nepripremljenih za takve napore i uvjete koji ih tamo očekuju, posebno na visinama iznad 6000 m gdje zrak postaje sve rjeđi i kada ponestaje kisika (zone smrti). A time se opasnost od stradavanja nemjerljivo povećava.
